The Ranger Ryan STA-R-5 is the creation of John Gokchoff. He modified Ryan PT-22's to look like the Ryan ST. At first glance it is a Ryan ST. But a closer look tells a different story. The tail is the first giveaway. The orignal ST's tail (left) was noticably more round at the trailing edge. Notice this example (above) has the more triangular tail of the PT-22. Also notice the engine exausts (above right), there are 6, not 4 exaust ports. Thats a Ranger inline 6 cylinder powerplant as opposed to the ST's Menasco 4 cylinder ( right).
